Biography

Known for a velvety sound and technical brilliance on both flute and piccolo, Erinn Frechette is quickly becoming established as one of today’s brightest performers and pedagogues. Erinn joined the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra as Piccolo/Third Flute in June 2002. She has performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Kentucky Symphony, Sorg Opera Company, the Opera Theater of Lucca (Italy), and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. As an orchestral musician she has performed under some of today’s most notable conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Gunther Schuller, Sir George Solti, William Eddins, Andrew Grams, Grant Llewellyn, and Christopher Warren-Green, among others. She also serves as Principal Flute of Ethos Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble dedicated to raising funds for charitable organizations in the Charlotte metro area, and of Queen City Virtuosi.

As a chamber musician she has appeared with Providence Chamber Music Series, Friends of Music, and Noteworthy Chamber Music Series (Charlotte), and Suzuki and Friends Series (Indianapolis). Erinn has been a featured performer at the 2008 National Flute Association convention, the Florida Flute Association’s Annual Flute Fair and State Convention, the Raleigh Area Flute Association, and the Eastern Iowa Flute Association. In addition, she has been an adjudicator for the National Flute Association’s High School Soloist Competition, Orchestral Audition Competition, Young Artist Competition (first round), and Piccolo Master Class Competition (first round).

As a flute and piccolo pedagogue Erinn has taught classes at East Carolina University’s Flute Symposium, the University of South Carolina, the South Carolina Flute Society, the Raleigh Area Flute Association, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, the Eastern Iowa Flute Association, Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State University, and Frostburg State University.

Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Erinn holds a Bachelor of Music Degree cum laude from Northwestern University and a Master of Music Degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She is currently completing a Doctor of Music Degree at the University of Cincinnati. While a student at CCM Erinn participated in numerous competitions including Flute Talk and Myrna Brown Artist Competition. In August 2000 she won first place in the National Flute Association Piccolo Artist Competition; two years later she won first place in the Young Artist Competition. She remains the only person in the NFA's history to win both divisions. Her instructors include Walfrid Kujala, Brad Garner, Jack Wellbaum and Richard Graef.

Erinn performs on Burkart and Straubinger flutes (switching between an M2 Burkart and 18k LaFin headjoints) and a 1993 Brannen cocus wood piccolo.
